American Idol once again hosted the “Idol Gives Back”, a special charity edition of the hit TV show. Idol Gives Back was able to raise more than $45 million on this latest charity event alone. The proceeds will benefit designated charities in the US and around the world, including the Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children’s US Programs and the United Nations Foundation.
The show featured tons of celebrity performers including Elton John, Joss stone, Black Eyed Peas, Jeff Beck, Annie Lennox and Alicia Keys, who also served as the mentor during the night’s event. Queen Latifah hosted the event in Pasadena Civic Center in Los Angeles and Ryan Seacrest in the American Idol studio.
The event opened with a video clip of President Barak Obama and his First Lady Michelle Obama. The US President thanked American Idol and all the viewers for their continued support for the charities. He also urged all the viewers to donate money for the fundraising event.
During the show, the top 12 were reunited performing the “Keeping The Dream Alive”. They all dressed in white and it was really a very inspiring performance. But in the end, attention was finally turned toward the bottom three: Tim Urban, Aaron Kelly and Casey James. Aaron Kelly and Casey James were declared safe, while teen heartthrob Tim Urban received the lowest number of votes.
It was really part of the Idol Gives Back to eliminate one from the top 7 contestants, and unluckily for Tim he was the one voted out from the competition. I believe it was really Tim Urban’s time to go. His performance of “Better Days” was for me, another uninspiring and the worst performance of the night.
We all know that Tim Urban definitely has the looks and a captivating smile. This, I think, is the reason why he has lots of teenage fans who continuously voted for him. Well, he also had good moments on the show, but majority of his performance was just bad… very bad. It really took a long time before Tim got eliminated and now his time is finally up at last.
The 20-year-old American Idol teen heartthrob from Duncanville, Texas will finally be headed home after making it to the top 7. That was quite a run, but no longer will Tim’s pretty face be gracing the American Idol stage. I felt sorry for him, yet even if he stayed in the competition, he definitely won’t win. His voice is lacking depth and I don’t think he can even hit higher notes.
Now, it’s down to the final 6 on American Idol season 9. The show becomes more and more exciting as we await the big event. The time to separate the best from the rest is near.
