The grand finale of American Idol hosted a number of performances by guest performers and some of the earlier American Idol contestants; Season 7 winner David Cook performed too.
The night started off with the entire lot of the Top 13 singing “So What” by Pink. Then it was David Cook to perform his single “Permanent”. He put up a pretty good show and said that his song was up on iTunes and the proceeds would be going towards to help find a cure for cancer. Lil Rounds and Queen Latifah were up next to performing their new single “Cue the Rain”. Then it was Anoop Desai with Alexis Grace and Jason Mraz to perform “I’m Yours”. Kris Allen and Keith Urban performed “Kiss A Girl”. And now it was time for the girls in the Top 13 to perform “Glamorous” and “Big Girls don’t Cry” with Fergie. Allison Iraheta was up next to perform “Time After Time” with Cyndi Lauper. Then it was Ryan’s time; he interviewed both Adam and Kris’s families. After performance by Danny Gokey, Adam Lambert and Matt Giraud, it was the Ford music video starring Kris and Adam. David Cook then presented two 2010 ford Fusion hybrid cars to both Adam Lambert and Kris Allen.
The guys from the Top 13 then were on to perform “Do Ya think I am Sexy?” and the “Maggie May” with Rod Stewart. Then it was the Top 2 contestants, Adam and Kris performing together “We Are the Champions” with Queen Latifah. After all the performances, it was time to announce the winner of American Idol Season 8. As everyone were anticipating the results eagerly, Kris Allen was crowned “American Idol” with a staggering one hundred million votes cast! He then performed his first official single “No Boundaries” co- written by Kara DioGuardi.
